Bar/Bat Mitzvah offers a spiritual, communal and celebratory rite-of-passage for teenagers and is an occasion enjoyed by everyone at NPLS. The essence of Bar/Bat Mitzvah remains marks a transition from Jewish childhood towards Jewish adulthood. Becoming a 21st Century Jewish teenager also involves taking some responsibility for one’s own Judaism.
At NPLS we place a strong emphasis on navigating this journey with the support of a Jewish peer group. Together, our teenagers enjoy celebrating the transition that each of them makes and for many of our Bar/Bat Mitzvah students, this experience does not mark the end of Jewish education as they go onto participate in our exciting Kabbalat Torah programme.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah at NPLS Is only offered to members who attend regularly. We expect children to enrol in our Bar/Bat Mitzvah programme no later than school year 7. The programme consists of a Jewish Studies and Hebrew course lasting 6 terms, a series of family study workshops and a commitment to learn to individual learning, in most cases guided by a private tutor.
Full details of the NPLS’ Bar/Bat Mitzvah programme are available in our Bar/Bat Mitzvah booklet.
